I have begun the process of moulding and casting the portion of Ada's head that I will be making the prosthetic for.
After collecting and setting up everything, Julia said I wasn't doing it right, so we started over, using her help. Even with Julia's help, I am not 100% satisfied with the mould itself. Her and I talked that in the future, cold water would help to slow the curing time, allowing us to work the algernate around Ada's face better. Along with this, next time we should use a finer burlap to help the algernate and plaster bandage bond. Otherwise, so far so good! :)
I have also checked and properly compared costs of materials. I am afraid to say it that even with going for the less-costly latex foam, I will struggle to afford it. Next year, it's definitely loan time should I decide I want to continue prosthetics. I plan to order it tomorrow; it will have to go on my credit card and I will have to cry to Daddy.
I missed the prosthetics group tutorial yesterday and plan to attend a tutorial tomorrow with Ce, even though I talked with Paul briefly about what Will is going to tell us.
Earlier today I helped Ada and Hugo with their project making a duct tape dummy, which is something I have done before for costuming. Ahh it was fun.
Tomorrow will be filled with lectures, tutorials, and figuring out how to put Ada's head on a stick and base so I can sculpt over it.

Trying to re-live architecture...
17/11 Tuesday Figured out the issue of the triangles. Apparently the original Rhino details had multiple lines, even though the Illustrator file showed only one. This is the only explanation that I could think of. So I popped back onto the laser-cutter to cut the last of the triangles after re-copying the data. By this point, all things to be laser cut/engraved have been completed. Hooray. ALSO, the best and only way to not blow your brains out watching and waiting for the laser cutter is to play solitaire. Or spider solitaire.
18/11 Wednesday Didn’t come in. Spent the day in bed staring at the walls.
24/11 Tuesday Came in late. Started to sand triangles. Pestered about the studio, checked up on Lucy and Rebecca who were working on the base. Took 2/3 of my triangles home to sand.
25/11 Wednesday Came in with triangles and sore hands. For the first time in my life I made a couple of simple jigs that were used to aide in the dichlo-ing of the triangles. Ada helped me figure out how to make the angles properly because I am horrible at maths. I then got what I thought was acrylic and started to plan out the interior walls.
1/12 Tuesday Continued to go along with my walls as Lucy and Rebecca worked on putting together the exterior. Paul then asked why I was using ABS. Will then showed me the difference between ABS and acrylic and explained how to more efficiently cut the walls. Wrote down all the measurements, then cut them on the circular saw. I decided to frost the walls since the floor plates were also going to frosted. I asked Rebecca how to go about it because our initial plans were to maybe use the sand-blaster. She told me to spray them but had no idea the way to go about that. I asked a few others and got no straight answers or answers that were the same. So I decided to hand frost the walls with sand paper.
2/12 Wednesday I finished off the frosting, and learned from Hugo how to spray to get the frosted effect. With this knowledge I went to the spray room and spray frosted the floor plates and pier flooring. I then dichlo-d the walls to the floor plates and was doing SO WELL until I freaking spilled my entire dichlo pot on the floor plates and desk.
8/12 Tuesday Came in and fixed the disaster, which was really just cutting some new walls, and sanding back obvious dichlo-spill edges.
9/12 Wednesday My memory is terrible. I don’t know what I did today.
10/12 Thursday I came in super late and took over the spraying for Rebecca. I sprayed the pier flooring white over the frosted paint because it looked silly against the white base. Also sprayed the dowel rods used for the decks supports.
11/12 Friday Crazy hand in day. I sprayed. I sanded. I glued. I yelled. I wanted to kill. We got it done and I never want to think of this day again for as long as I live.

9/11-13/11
Monday - CAM we reviewed what the 3-D printer is and some of the applications used for creating documents for 3-D printing/milling. Short example of building things in AutoCAD for architecture or whatever it was called.
Tuesday - We were supposed to get on the laser cutter but of course we didn't have proper data ready so we lost the spot. Worked on my learning agreement after all the laser-cutting stuff was prepared properly.
Wednesday - Introduced to the 3-D printer and CNC mill by Ed. Then I spent all day watching the laser cutter. And then I had issues where my data may be correct because it was doing 2-3 passes instead of 1 for each line. Then spent an hour or so peeling the backs off of the millions of laser-cut triangles. -_-
Thursday - Polished off my LA for C&E. Showed it to Will and made some final final final adjustments. I tried to hand it in and failed.
Friday - Came in, handed in LA and went home. :)
Weekend - Worked on sketchbook for C&E

2/11-6/11
Monday - CAD/CAM was changed. Again. Edward showed us how to prepare things in Rhino for cnc-ing. I remember that it has to have a wall around it, be water-tight and have no undercuts. Or the machine explodes or something.
Tuesday - General architecture day. Spent a good amount of it preparing for laser-cutting then using the laser cutter a million times to make test pieces that failed. Sanded them to an angle, and then gave up and went home.
Course social.
Wednesday was a fail day. I failed to make it in because Alan has a bed of no return.
Thursday - Lecture on presentation skills. Learned about the learning agreement. Worked on the learning agreement, talked with Will. Pretty much okay'd it... Either Wed/Thurs I watched the 3rd DVD from the Neill Gorton studios.
Bonfire Night at Ada's.
Friday - Returned library dvd and got out the 4th. Worked in sketchbook a bit, tinkered with the Learning Agreement. Started to actually read through the books I've put down as references.
Sunday - Wrote this :3 Watch final dvd. Researched.

Week of 26/10
Monday - This was an absolutely useless day. I was scheduled as group C. So I came in a bit after 2 to find out the days itinerary was messed with. So I missed a lecture after lunch with the new CAD guy. I got ANOTHER induction into the laser cutter to relieve boredom and then went to a lecture on Myro the micoplane. Which... I'm sorry, not my thing. I find it interesting that a man who has no kids, is making a children's-related thing.
Tuesday - Laser cut a bunch of card pieces to tinker with to make a sketch model. Rebecca and Lucy worked together to assemble the sketch model while I worked in the computer lab to prepare and draw out more things to be laser cut.
Wednesday - London. I went to the Design museum and I was quite disappointed with the first level of architecture. While there was a huge variety with the models, I found them all very simple and not so much fun to look at. Also, why was there a random table of silverware and dishes in the middle of the gallery? I thought the second round of models upstairs to be neat, but I didn't care for the colours or futuristic designs. From there we ventured to the Imperial Museum, then got separated on our way back. Pub. Bus. I feel like every time I go to London with the class, it's just such a waste and the only thing that makes up for it is my classmates.
Thursday - Work day on C&E. I still have not heard from any of the companies I had e-mailed and I feel really put off by that. So I will continue with design and ask Will for tutorial and see if I'm wording my e-mails okay, or if I've somehow been extremely offensive. Lecture was canceled. -_-

Friday-yaaay-
9:30 I'm in and mucking about in the studio discussing class antics and idea discussion. Getting onto the computer to look at things...
~10:15 Emily presents to the class her portfolio. ^^ It's always neat to look at toy design and production and it made me briefly reconsider pursuing a toy design for CE. Afterwards I had a cigarette. :)
Lunch! Then, at 1:30 Paul showed us some of his stuff. The museum things looked interesting, but I'm afraid to pursue 1:1 or larger scales.
Around 3:45/4 Paul and I discussed my project ideas. He was really enthusiastic towards my ideas, which is awesome. We also discussed a work study opportunity. I must remember on Monday to ask him about it/remind him :P Though to be fair, I have no idea what company he was talking about, or even what it was called. :|

Intro to CE
Today we were introduced to the Commercial Exploration unit. Like just about 50% of the class, I want to do some sort of prosthetic.
I have successfully e-mailed 5 places in England asking them to show me their studios. Dear God, I did not know that there were so many model-making related places in England! I think I spent 4 hours just jumping through lists of websites related to model-making. FFS.
Now it's on to a hopeful bit of sketchbook work, just figured I'd get this blog set up for log-booking.
